Last month, Citrix made the bold move to release their latest
iteration of XenServer under an Open Source license. According to
Citrix, this will allow them to "better engage with ecosystem partners
to enable innovation"1 .At the same time, they created a new user portal at XenServer.org to foster community interaction and third-party development.
In
addition to its new license model, XenServer 6.2 introduces a few new
features as well, including support for Windows 8 and Windows Server
2012, improvements to horizontal scaling, and better alerting
capabilities.
In a highly competitive marketplace of big hitters such as VMWare, a constantly maturing Hyper-V, and other open source virtualization products, what does this mean for Citrix, and is it enough to gain the kind of enterprise adoption they are looking for?
